Tick Season 2026 has Begun

Tick Season 2026 is Here – Don’t Get Sick, Check For Ticks!

Warmer days are back, and so are the ticks! The Ford County Public Health Department is reminding everyone to stay safe while enjoying the outdoors.

Quick Tips from the IDPH Guide:

• Wear light-colored long sleeves and pants

• Use bug repellent with 20%+ DEET, picaridin, or IR3535

• Stay in the center of trails and avoid tall grass

• Check your clothes, hair, and body after every outdoor activity

• Shower and wash/dry clothes on hot to remove any hitchhikers

• If a tick is attached, remove it with tweezers (close to skin, steady pull – no squeezing!)

See a doctor right away if you develop:

rash, fever, chills, body aches, or headache after a bite.

Remember to check for ticks!
